LibreOffice 4: Open with a vengeance

Three years after its claim to fame, the LibreOffice 4.0 productivity suite emerges today as a first credible aternative to Microsoft Office in a decade. Perhaps the most significant evolution to fork out of Open Office following Oracle's acquisition of Sun Microsystems, LibreOffice rapidly organized to grow into the largest open project in the productivity market.

With 500 developers contributing 50,000 code commits to achieve this milestone, LibreOffice is available on all major operating systems in over 100 languages. Already challenged online by the intuitive ergonomy of Google Docs, completely overtaken by Apple's Keynote, which dominates PowerPoint in every aspect, Microsoft must now face the music with this serious intrusion on its monopolistic home turf. LivreOffice is entirely format-compatible and installs with disconcerting ease. All this at a very competitive price point…

An alternative to explore without delay!
